It has been a long winter. I am inching to get on my bike and get some of this winter spread off. However, it has not been a fruitless winter. We have been advocating for Newtown Battle Field State Park to keep it open to the public as well as changing the trails into multi-use trails meaning for hikers and bikers to use. Secondly, Tom, and I have been taking a class at Cornell University through the League of American Bicyclists, Traffic Skills 101, taught by Lois Chapman, who is also on the board of the New York Bike Coalition. .
Went to Albany for the NY Bike Summit. Another Advocacy thing! Had a very nice ride around the Capitol District and through Washington Park with NYBC Board members. Afterwords had lunch at Debbie's Kitchen (Turkey with cranberry mayo, sliced apple and Gouda was to die for) with our fellow riders including Andre' from Ithaca who also helps teach our cycling class. (small world). During lunch, Brian Kehoe, Director of NY Bike Coalition, came in and joined us at our table. (small world). We proceeded to tell him our agenda about Newtown Battlefield whether he wanted to hear it or not! He listened, nodded his head, gave us his card and told us to call him. He was appeared actually interested and probably board! Anyhoo, it was well worth the trip, made some new friends in high places and I look forward to going down to Albany again. If anything just for the great sandwiches!
